August Moons draws on their diverse musical backgrounds to create a rich, layered blend of soaring vocals, haunting viola, and dazzling guitar. When Tamra Hayden, a Broadway performer and singer-songwriter with a voice that has been said to reheat coffee, and Frederick “Funkyfreddy” Reed, a gifted guitarist, singer-songwriter and sound engineer, join forces, the result proves that unlikely combinations can create a sublime musical experience. Their influences include a generous helping of Neil Young and classic rock, a slice of contemporary folk, a taste of blues, and a dash of ambient electronic tossed in and stirred well. Their songs draw upon themes of faith and doubt, the beauty of nature, and the human journey towards peace in the world and within ourselves.
Funkyfreddy and Tamra first connected at a live jam for musicians from the virtual world Second Life, and began working together about a year later. “When I first heard Tamra sing Book of Fate, a song I had written long before I met her,” Fred says, “it was as if I had written the song for her!” Fred asked Tamra to record some vocals and viola for his recently released album, Songs from the North Country, and they soon realized that they had a great collaboration in the making. Fred and Tamra began doing concerts online, using a technique known as dual streaming to perform together even from their homes in Montreal and the NYC area, respectively. Since then, they have performed live in person around the Eastern US and Canada, and have embarked on a new recording project as a band.
Frederick Reed aka Funkyfreddy is a gifted composer and multi-instrumentalist with a unique sound and melodic style. His slide guitar and ambient guitar styling have dazzled audiences throughout New England. Fred has collaborated with many notable artists including Jeff Buckley, Dee-Lite, and Pete Shelly (the Buzzcocks), during his long career as a musician and sound engineer. Fred has recorded two solo albums, Ghosts of Another America, and the newly released Songs from the North Country.
From Broadway to the Blues, critics have called Tamra Hayden‘s performances “emotionally rich and psychologically detailed” with “a voice that could reheat coffee” and “outsizzle Peggy Lee.” Tamra has performed starring roles on Broadway and on tour in such blockbusters as Les Miserables, Cabaret, and The Phantom of the Opera. A versatile songwriter as well as a singer, Tamra has been praised for her albums, A Day At the Fair, and I Believe In The Fire, for which she was named one of the “Top 10 to Watch in 2010″ by CDBaby.
